It is Time
that a great champion must move on and leave the track to his fellow stablemates to take over...
Kirsten sat a top one of her most prized stallion racers at the entrance to the turf track. The unique stallion pranced on the tip of his toes oblivious to the fact that this was his last run on the GHF racetrack. It was time for the graded one stakes racehorse to retire. He had a good last two years on the track and has brought fame and fortune to his name in a special way and helped bring Akita Rose Stables some winning comfort when all seemed lost. Kirsten still could remember that day when her husband left her and she had grabbed any random horse from the barn and raced out into the wilderness. Spitz had been such a comfort that day. It was how their bond first got established.
And now Spitz was moving on to a new barn and a new career as a stud. Kirsten urged the great stallion into his warm-ups and he moved with ease and excitement. Tears started to blur Kirsten's eyes. Poor Spitz will miss the track so much... He belonged to the track, he loved the track...
Hopefully he would adjust to life as a lover boy then it would be easier on Kirsten for making this difficult decision of retiring him. She just felt it was now the time. He was five years old and it was starting to show in his results. He has had some bad races and some really good ones. His only offspring was Spitfire, who was a yearling that was looking better by every day. He was worth a lot as a stud now and Kirsten felt that retiring him now before any injuries would be the best choice.
Kirsten patted the neck of the grey stallion fondly. "You enjoy this last run boy." With that a big tear rolled down her cheek. This was going to be the last run on the track...
