"Aaron! Let's go! We have a schedule to keep!" Kirsten yelled down the racing barn at her farm. She was frustrated. Aaron should have been done at the track exactly seven minutes ago with A Royal Legacy. The system just can not break down today. There were some very important races this weekend. Pffttt. When was there never any important races?
She sighed and slammed the door shut. He better get down to the track in the next thirty seconds or she was going to blow a gasket. There was never enough time in the mornings. The door slammed open and Aaron strode out grumbling his displeasure. His mount was nearly trampling him down to push towards the training track. Kirsten smiled. She liked her horses feisty and ready to run.
The handsome bay colt by the legendary Merry Bay King was in top shape and improving every day. He was ARS' hope for the Triple Crown next year. Problem was that the competition has just been way too tough in the two year old field that Kirsten was worried he wasn't getting the public's attention. Not that it matters, really... it would just be nice to have some recognition of talent. He has been doing decently as a juvenile but Kirsten always raced her juveniles quite lightly. This weekend would be the true test of his talent.
She was nervous. They all were. If Legacy failed to put up a good show in the Youth Challenge then their hopes for the Breeder's Cup Juvenile, and the Triple Crown would be shot down. He just had to perform to his full potential... he had to. They haven't had a good run for the Triple Crown since Limitless Time. If ARS was going to get back in the running they were going to have to take this one.
"Sorry boss", grumbled Aaron. "Legacy just wouldn't cooperate." Kirsten shook her head. "I'm not surprised. He hates being away from the track for a long period of time. But that is still no excuse. You could have started earlier. You should know better than this. You want to win anything on these horses and be recognized as a jockey than you will have to take your job more seriously." With that she briskly turned around and made her way to the rail, allowing one of the stable hands to give him a boost.
Aaron glared at Kirsten's retreating back in frustration. What does she know? She doesn't have a darn baby crying throughout the night. Instantly he regretted his thoughts. Kirsten HAD been there before and to be honest it was Aaron's fault that he hadn't kept his you know what in his pants. Plus he adored his son. He sighed and kicked the young buck into gear. It was time to get to work. Tomorrow was going to be an intense and deal breaking day.
Just a good warm up jog around the track a few times will do the trick. Legacy needs to be nice and limber if he wants to have a shot tomorrow. He was already raring to go. The outcome could be anyone's guess.
