Kirsten and Aaron walked along the paddocks discussing his mounts for the year. He was a new jockey joining the ARS crew and had many years of experience. They just finished visiting Sophie's paddock and had received quite a show from the feisty filly. Now they were passing the stud row and Kirsten could see the black outline of her most prized stallion, Night Stalker in the distance.
Aaron stopped to stare at all the majestic stallions that lived at Akita Rose Stables. He had made a good choice in coming to work at the famous racing stable. They had plenty of good stock and many rides. Right now most of the rides belonged to Kirsten and Melanie but there was lots of upcoming foals too that will eventually need a jockey.
They were now nearing a paddock that held ARS' four yearlings. The foals weren't running around in their paddock like normal, instead they were huddled against the far corner. Kirsten could see a black hide and a dark bay one but that was about all. All of a sudden a shrill cry for help screamed across the paddock and Kirsten immediately jumped into action and Aaron was not too far behind her. They ran into the enclosure and towards the tall lanky yearlings.
Rousseau had Striker pinned up in the corner and was lashing out at the poor helpless colt. Striker's eyes were rolling and he was screaming on the top of his lungs. Rousseau had his teeth barring out and was trying to bite him. Sunny and Pride were standing behind Rousseau and were shifting uncomfortably. The filly, Sunny was slowly making her way to Rousseau but was hesitating. She looked back at Kirsten and seemed to look ashamed and moved back again beside Pride Stalker.
Kirsten slowly made her way towards Rousseau but the colt hated her so she doubted that she would be able to stop this madness. Aaron moved to the other side and just as they were about to grab him he whipped around and kicked Thunderstrike swiftly right in the chest. Striker screamed and crumbled to the ground. Rousseau spun on his heel and took off towards the opposite side of the paddock. Sunny followed him and quickly caught up to him. Pride looked at Striker and at Kirsten and moved to Kirsten and nuzzled her shirt, looking for affection but took off as soon as Rousseau let out a loud whinny. Kirsten moved to check the damage on the dark bay and Aaron stood looking at the yearlings play.
Thunderstrike stood back up on his legs and looked longingly at the yearlings playing in the distance. Kirsten shook her head at Aaron and sighed. "This is the second time he's attacked Striker. I don't know what to do with that colt, he absolutely hates me and will not let me close to him without biting me." She shook her head again and jogged to the fence to grab one of the lead shanks that was hanging there for emergencies. She hooked it up to Striker's head and lead him out of the enclosure. When she looked back at the foals they were staring at her curiously, all except Rousseau, who was staring at her with pure hatred.
