Little by little
I will make you forgive...
Kirsten stood with her arms over the paddock fence watching the black juvenile in action. My Man O War shook his mane and took off full blast towards the back of the enclosure with such blistering speed that Kirsten was afraid he'd go right through (or over). At the last minute he turned sharply to the right and kept running. Remarkable... Yeah, the two year old by Night Stalker was fast... very fast... but furious as well. Furious with her.
Kirsten sighed. She wasn't quite sure what to do. Since she has gotten home four days ago she has visited Mano at his stall and paddock whenever possible. She was trying to show him she wasn't going to go anywhere but all she has gotten from him was the cold shoulder. How was she going to get the stubborn horse to forgive her? She needed to get Mano on the track and in a race. So far every rider that has sat in his saddle has been dumped all over the practice track. She sighed again. What to do?
All of a sudden a thunder of hooves raced into her line of vision. Kirsten stepped back with surprise. Was he going to stop? Mano raced towards her with his head held low and his right eye watching her every move. Kirsten held his gaze (and her breath) as he approached. At the last second he skidded to a stop. Dirt and grass flew up in every direction. Still, Kirsten did not move. Horse and owner stared into each others eyes, both demanding answers.
Finally, after a few quiet moments Mano took off again to the back fence. Little by little... Kirsten was determined to win the colts trust no matter what it took. She was not giving up this time. He will see. She was in for the long haul.
