and we are not backing down
"Hey!" Kirsten exclaimed as the young gray colt pushed her forward with his nose. She turned around and shot him a fake angry look. Diggam stared at her and slowly blinked. Kirsten laughed and rubbed his nose. Diggam was too much of a lovable steed. "You are running your second race this weekend. Are you going to win this time?" Diggam tilted his head and regarded Kirsten quizzically. She laughed again.
In fact, the rest of ARS' juveniles would be making their debut (or second race) this weekend. It was nerve racking but in a way she would be glad to just get all these first races out of the way. It was always a good way to see what potential a horse may carry and what still needed to be worked on. Also, the first race was always tough on the horse, the next race they knew more what to expect. Diggam's first race went well, he didn't win but he got good experience and came in second.
She snapped the lead shank back on the now tacked up juvenile. "Let's go for one last practice Diggam." She could hear a horse screaming just outside and making a bunch of ruckus. Well, Melanie has her hands full. Guaranteed it was Miss Josephine up to her typical moody self again. The three year old filly was quite a handful... which makes her perfect for Melanie. The horse had also run her first race of the season last weekend and had placed second. She had the potential, let's hope she won this time.
She mounted the short gray colt and rode onto the turf track. Diggam immediately perked up and started to prance over the turf. "Good boy, we got this." She smiled and glanced up to see Miss Josephine giving Melanie a hard time. She sighed. That feisty filly was going to have to mature a bit if she was going to make a good run for the turfer crown this year. She had the potential, but she still had a long way to go.
Melanie clenched her teeth as the battle between her and the stubborn filly continued. "Come on Josey. We've got to work together." Sweat glistened the neck of the bay filly. Her ear flickered backward in response to Melanie's voice. They continued their battle of wits while Kirsten breezed the young Diggam at the inside rail. "Okay Josey it's our turn. Let's go! You've already worked up a sweat, it's time to actually make it worthwhile." They turned towards the inside rail and let the racing spirit of a young filly bred to run - RUN.
